"Good job, thanks 'Wreck..." the medic nodded, "'Least that gives me a fighting chance with these two - Vibro in particular. He's in rough shape... spidermech out there, far as I can tell by a glance I can most likely do a patch up for until Laser gets in. Probably gonna get my cranial ripped off in the process though. What the hell, I've cracked tougher cases!"
Grinning off the danger as he quickly ran through the drills to stabilise his current patient, Jumpstart looked to be thoroughly in his respective element. Sure, the facility was sub-par, but with power and a good dose of hard work he could get it roughly up to spec....equipment aside.
Hooking Vibro upto a monitor station and tapping a line in to raise his power and fuelling levels to a safe minimum for repairs, he stepped away from the downed mech, "I'll give him a few to level out before I start, meanwhile I'll go get our eight-legged friend. - Do me a favour, keep an optic on Vibro f' the while an' holler if anythin' screwy kicks off."
Pulling the trolley over he'd used earlier, the medic headed out to collect caller number two.

Laser trudged steadily through the dank walkways of the courtyard. Luckily they weren't that far away from the medical centre, but he could feel his own weight pressuring his bearings like never before. He didn't turn around, but he smelled Volca as she ran up to follow them. When he heard her voice, he confirmed she was coming along. Which meant the two alcoholics would be left behind to frolic about the fire.
Typical.
However, Laser wasn't as worried about Cutlass and Starport stumbling around drink in hand; he was worried about Spironok. And even more so, Towreck and Jumpstart. He hadn't seen them around, so he assumed the 3 were together. And he didn't think these younger bots truly understood the danger of an Arachnoid. If only they had been there....during the Arachnoid Wars....
<Flashback>
2,000 years ago...
....The ground was soft and wet, and the sky was a deep, rich purple. The clouds bellowed and twisted, and a warm climate settled upon the scene. The smell of freshly torn metal drifted through the atmosphere, and, ever so often, one could see the metallic soil shift as if it were alive....
This was the battle ground. It was morning now, but it the sun hadn't set, and the clouds had not shifted color. No one had slept, and those who did, did not awaken. The small city of Ceolus was being overrun, and the citizens decided to take action at the spawn. They called expert exterminators.
They called the Guardians.
"We've got about 2 ways out of this hell hole, and that's up or down." Captain Flat was one of many hired guns commanding his own platoon of 25 or so men. They were currently stuck in an old tool shed, and they could feel the creatures crawling underneath. "I can rig the elevator and we can ride down the the mine shaft in groups of 3. I don't know what the hell is down there...so--"
The lights fizzed on and back off in a flash, causing major panic.
"Shut up! Listen, keep it together! To hell with the elevator....wait, I have an idea." He walked up to a critically wounded soldier and stared at him. He had lacerations on his face, and his optics were totally gone. He was hit by an Acarion. The bastards always went for the strangest places...hell, even the boy's skull was half missing. It was a sorry sight. "You doin' okay, son?"
"Oh! Just put me down!" The poor bot sobbed in agony and rolled over. It was disgusting. His processors began to slowly fall from his head...
Flat yanked the soldier off the ground and fitted him with C4. He placed him into the elevator and sent him down to the mine shaft.
The squad listened to the boy's confused murmers, and the squeal of Acarion Arachnoids as they plunged into him. He shrieked in fright, and pain, but he was drowned out by the feeding. Flat detonated the explosives, and all was silent. "Well. Glad we didn't go down there!"
The rest of the squad looked at him in disgust.
"What? He was of no use to us anyway." He spat and turned his back on them. "He would have slowed us down. Thanks to him we know we are better off trying to find another route to escape."
Then the mine shaft buckled and collapsed underneath the building.
Twisting metal and screeching Acarions came bursting from the floor, latching onto the cybertronians and tearing into them. Shouts of terror and pain filled the room instantaneously, and friendly fire went off without a second thought. Flat expertly shot the ones suspended in mid jump, and lead the way outside the building. Turning suddenly, he detonated another explosive, obliterating the building and anyone left inside.
"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!" One soldier punched Flat in the shoulder. "Some of our guys were still in there! And they weren't even stuck! (term used for Acarion feeding) What kind of scrap is running through your mind!"
"It's them or us, Lias!" Flat decked the soldier in the chest. "I'm not taking any chances...."
He was interrupted by the chirping of a hundred Arachnoids burrowing their way.
"Arani...." whispered Flat. "Eight leggeds...."
Enter Laser.
The massive Guardian swooped in from the heights, landing in from the east. He scanned the oncoming colony, and turned to Flat and his remaining squad. "Retreat," he said dryly. The spider like arachnoids exploded from the ground, leaping onto Laser and swarming him. His entire body shimmered with the silver exoskeletons of the beasts...and then with one shockwave, he sent them flying in all different directions.
Climax rolled in from the south, delivering a beautiful airstrike to the rear of the colonies' advance, smoking out the stragglers and cutting off retreat. Laser began to pick them off by spraying them down with heavy fire. "Climax, come around for a second pass, sector 3.7 by 3.9, authorizing the sprinkler."
"Roger that, Angel. Sprinkling." Climax zipped by, firing a wave of individual laser shots at the ground in a pattern, melting the arachnoids. Laser tagged a mound nearby. "Suspicious activity near the mound. Remove it."
Climax smoked the mound of soil, sending a plethora of Acarions into the exposed air and weak sunlight, scorching them badly. They twisted and died.
Laser started to walk up to Flat when a loud scream erupted from the ground below. "Spironok..." Laser swore and grabbed a few soldiers, tossing the upwards for Climax to catch. The ones who could fly did so, and Laser grabbed Captain Flat and flew into the air. The ground below practically turned inside out and the biggest eight-legged arachnoid Flat had ever seen shook itself out of the dirt. It was accompanied by thousand of others, swarming over it and lying eggs in the bellies of the dead. The creatures burst from the freshly killed and ate the carcass, growing rapidly.
"Whoa! Is that--?"
"Spironok. Yes." Laser frowned. "It's making a last stand."
"How are we going to save Ceolus?"
"We're not. The situation is far too out of hand. The Primes have deemed Ceolus...uninhabitable."
"....."
"We have been authorized to purge the area."
Flat's eyes nearly fell out of his head. "What! Nuke it? What about the civilians!?"
Climax chimed in. "Everyone is getting out safely."
Flat smiled in disbelief.
"Except you." Laser's tone was dry and uncaring, but seemed ominous.
Flat's smile dropped like a rock. "Wait...what???"
"We've seen the way you dispose of your soldiers. Dishonorable. We'll show you what it means to perish on the battlefield for a true cause."
"YOU DON'T HAVE A TRUE CAUSE TO LEAVE ME HERE!"
Laser thought for a moment. "You're heavy." He dropped Flat into the swarm of Arachnoids, and watched the beasts rip him limb from limb. A terrible way to go, it was. ***************
A few hours later Laser was flying over the city, carrying the massive bomb that was to be dropped. But he was looking for something, something special....
Spironok stood at the top of a hill, delivering some kind of inspirational speech to its kin in their native tongue. At the sight of Laser, it snarled and hissed. The rest of the Arachnoids responded in the same way....but watched in shock as the Guardian snatched their leader up with a grappling hook....
And then dropped the bomb....
*************
<Present>
Laser stopped his flashback for a moment to rest himself. He needed only a few seconds, but it was hard on him to move. He only hoped that he could get to the medical centre in time...
***********
Spironok shivered and swerved. It was getting close to the point of no return. Hearing Jumpstart approach, it perked up and stood still....

Bolshy as the medic typically was, when in the business of his profession he was nothing if not professional. Not necessarily polite, but always professional. Nodding slightly as he noted the arachnoid stand, he came to a stop a few steps short of the creature and lowered the trolley to a suitable height for it to climb aboard.
"C'mon... neither've us are happy about this, but I'm here t' do a job an' that job is help anyone or thing that needs it. You, pal, are hangin' on in that web on the last thread possible an' it don't take me any scanners t' figure that. Let's call a truce f' now in the name've mutual benefit."
That was the closest Jumpstart would offer to an apology and about the closest he was willing to get to the arachnoid in the line of duty, "'Least I can do is getchya some refined fuel an' repair what I can... until Laser shows. How much I do is entirely on your cards....but nukin' me ain't the brightest idea. I'm probably about the only medtech the team's got at the moment an' you may not give a flyin' sideways slag in general, but they will. It'll cost lives. Mine notwithstandin'"

Starport was still glad that they bar wasn’t firing off like fireworks. Most of the energon seemed to have exploded with Laser’s first attack. Now he couldn’t find another drink left. Picking up all that he did find, he tried to leave without dropping any. Luckily for him, one bot was there asking to help. Nodding his head, he knelt down to let him take a few. Once they got out, he finally realized that though his head cooled down, his body was burning up. To cool himself down, he opened up his doors and sat down. Putting down the energon, he picked up a drink, lifted it up to his mouth, and then desided to put it back down.
“Thanks for help, I’m glad we saved as much as we did. And sorry for mistaking you for a cat too. Had a few too many it seems, strong stuff. So anyway, I don’t think we’ve met. What’s your name?”

"You ok?" Volca asks looking up as Laser stops. "It may be the temporary parts breaking up. We're almost at the center." Tecton walks on a few paces ahead of them.
Cutlass takes a few of the bottles and checks the area quickly for anymore, not seeing any he leaps now rather awkwardly with his hands full, over the rubble. Gently dropping down the bottles he sits on the side of the road and pulls out the bottle he was drinking from earlier, this time only taking a sip of the stuff. "You're welcome mate, this stuff is too good to waste." He holds up the bottle a little before taking another sip. "Don't worry 'bout the cat thing, I've been mistaken for worse on me nights out." He laughs and pauses for a moment, he was quite sure he sent out a message to him about who he was but figuring the bot had been drinking and not heard it, it wouldn't hurt for him to introduce himself again."The name's Cutlass, captain of the Bloodrust. Your name's Starport right?"

Laser nodded in response to Volca's inquiry, and kept moving. The center was about a minute or so away now.
*********
Beam lay ashamed and defeated in the palm of Laser's hand. It was curled into a four fingered fist, and sealed her from the outside world. She'd sat in his hand before, but she noticed that his palms were colder now. Probably from energon loss. He was sluggish. In medical school, they always taught fast ways of healing large bots. With a big guy like him, she'd probably strap energon flow directly to the nodes of his spark, and then--
--No, she would let Tecton and Jumpstart handle it. She couldn't face Laser right now. After seeing him crash and burn in Iacon, and when she found he was alive, he is in a full on rage? It was too much for her. But perhaps she was in the wrong...perhaps they ALL were. But for him to blow up the bar in their faces? UGH! The nerve of him.
She was ashamed. Ashamed and defeated. Here they were, hiding in the ruins of Protihex from the Decepticon threat, and she was screwing off like nothing at ever happened. Laser was a Guardian, which meant he had brothers...brothers with their own respective powers. But where were they? They certainly weren't here, fighting alongside Starport and Towreck and Vibro. But Laser was. And she had scorned him. Scorned him for caring. Caring enough for a band of not-so-hardened soldiers that he nearly killed himself. And then he set a bar on fire. Big whoop. She felt like an ass. Beam closed her eyes and forced back tears. No matter what, she was going to have to set this right....
***********
Spironok stared blankly at Jumpstart. It couldn't move. Any energy it had left would be spent on trying to rip the Cybertronian limb from limb. It couldn't control itself. Spironok semi-consciously hissed. Part of it wanted to eat Jumpstart, the other part fearful that the Autobots would mount it on a wall afterwards. That is of course if Spironok even survived the fight with Jumpstart. If it moved, it would black out and either all hell would break loose or it would come quietly. Not taking the chance, Spironok stood frozen in time.

Narrowing optics slightly at the hiss, Jumpstart lowered the trolley and inched it beneath the arachnoid to make it's life a little easier. Grinning, he chipped back, "Stand there an' hiss at me all day, it ain't gonna make an iota've difference."
As he spoke, he jacked the trolley back up, lifting Spironok very slightly off the ground. Pausing to allow the arachnoid to adjust, the medic's sensors detected approaching life-signs - three or four? - at this range he couldn't be sure. The various statuses of the bots in question was unknown to him but one signature was clear over the others... a mech vastly more powerful than a Cybertronian of standard specifications. There were few enough who fitted that bill and there was one in particular he hoped it was.
"Mech, I think your luck's in," he commented quietly, "I got four or so comin' in roughly an' one've 'em's a powerhouse - could well be Laser I'm guessin'. They're a few out yet. Co-operate an' latch on t' the trolley f' me. I'll get you in an' get the fuel issue dealt with, all right? If it is Laser he can take over if he's fit for it himself. Sound fair?"
Of course, he was well aware the arachnoid couldn't communicate it's wishes to him verbally, but compliance with the request would do nicely as a show of acceptance at this point.

“Bloodrust, so that’s your ship’s name? Well Cutlass, you got my name right. Starport, captain of myself, but how’d you know that was my name? I don’t remember anyone saying it. Oh well, so what brings you over here anyways? And be careful, that’s strongest stuff, I’d only recommend maybe half.”
Starport wasn’t sure how Cutlass knew his name, but it didn’t throw him off ease. Cutlass seemed like a kind bot. Doubt he was a spy or something. Watching the way the bot eyed that drink made it seem like he just showed up for the drinks alone, but it’s not like he could have known that they were here. Not unless he had an energon sensor on that ship. Starport couldn’t see an Autobot symbol on Cutlass, in fact, he could see any symbol at all. Someone who belonged to neither fraction was uncommon these cycles, but stranger has happened. Closing his doors, Starport picked up a bottle that was only half full and offered it to Cutlass for replacement for the one that he was already holding.

"Guess you don't remember sending out this:" Cutlass replays the message he received earlier.
“With this batch of energon gone, we cannot become sober anytime soon. But fate has yielded its reward: another batch... 91%. We are out here with some cybercats, sitting in the street... but watching over them from Beam... waiting... protecting. I have witnessed their capacity for compassion, and though we are cities apart, like us, they seem to like drinks too. I am Starport, and I send this message to any surviving bot who are wanting a drink: We are here... we are waiting.” Cutlass laughs. "I've been drinking the strongest drinks since I was young. I can handle more than just a bottle." He drinks down some more leaving only a very little of the stuff. "I've been wanting a drink since I got into battle..." He smiles drinking down the last of the bottle. "You can keep that bottle for yourself." His armor was completely repaired by now, but he continued to drink purely for the fun of it. He pulls out another bottle, this one however was weaker. "But given the current affairs I best take it down a notch." He takes a swig of the fluid. "There's few things I like more than fightin', drinkin' of course being one of 'em... I love a good bit of adventure, in fact now that I have myself a ship, I'm looking for a crew to join me." He takes another swig then smiles.

Arriving at the medical center Tecton rests his back against the door holding it open for them to enter.

Spironok really hated Jumpstart.
The beast wanted nothing more than to rip the spine out of him. He was incredibly stubborn and unnecessarily rude. It was a cruel act of fate that made him the ONLY licensed medic the Autobots had. Spironok was to the point were it couldn't even understand what Jumpstart was saying. If it didn't eat soon, it would go into cryostasis...which was something it definitely had no intention of returning to.
To hell with the Autobots.
Spironok lunged in fury---but was blocked by Laser's sudden massive hand, which held it down. From the other hand, a hidden needle appeared and jabbed into Spironok's abdomen, and a pale, coagulated fluid was pumped into the creature. Spironok shrieked with a shudder, and collapsed. Laser latched it onto his back, and then looked about.
His great blue eyes scanned the medical center, as well as Jumpstart, which was apparently a medic of some sort.
"You are a medic, I presume?" His voice boomed. "I suffer from massive shrapnel intake and hindered vision due to prolonged exposure from detonations and danger close operations. My tendons above the kneecaps and ankles are uncalibrated and do not support my weight as well as the shocks allow. They are supported by temporary substitutes that are currently crumbling under the pressure. I have one damaged heel strut and have received concentrated and extensive damage externally, including the wings. I have an embedded computer that activates symbiotic nanites that tend to nano-node systems, but the computer has gone offline due to the unbalance of the general system. Needless to say, I suffer immense energon loss, and unlike a normal spark, I have 6 nodes feeding the center. One of those nodes have gone offline, and must be revived." He gestured to Tecton, holding open the door. "The good Doctor is prepared to assist you in your work...that is if you need it. Can you help me?"
Beam listened to Laser's complex diagnosis. It was pretty impressive that he knew everything that was wrong with him, but that was a really long list. How soon was he going to get out of care? If he had drank some energon...he may have been halfway to full recovery. But he would have had to drink a LOT of it...
Crawling down from Laser, she hit the ground and sheepishly waved at Jumpstart. "Uh...hi!" He didn't seem very friendly though, show she stepped away, embarrassed, only to step on Spironok's cold shivering arm. "Guah!" Beam hopped away, shuddering. Gaining a little curiosity, she stepped closer to look at it's face...when it's eyes fluttered...
"Oh shit!" She jumped back again. "That thing is satanic..."
